This year, skip the Super Bowl parties.

That’s the advice of Dr. Anthony Fauci, who warned of possible COVID-19 superspreader events if people get together for Sunday’s Super Bowl 2021 game between the Chiefs and Buccaneers.

“You don’t want parties with people that you haven’t had much contact with,” Fauci said during an appearance on “Good Morning America” Wednesday. “You just don’t know if they’re infected. So as difficult as that is, at least this time around, just lay low and cool it.”

The nation’s top infectious disease expert said watch parties could be dangerous, as members of different households come together while the COVID-19 pandemic surges in parts of the country, with new variants even more contagious than the initial virus.

Fauci likened the Super Bowl to other significant events, like Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and added “now is not the time” for parties.

“Every time we do have something like this, there always is a spike,” Fauci said on the “Today Show.” “Enjoy the game, watch it on television, but do it with the immediate members of your family, the people in your household.”
