Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday announced Henry “Hank” Gutman will take the reins at the city’s Department of Transportation for the final 11 months of his mayoralty.

Gutman, an attorney who chairs the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, will take over an agency with ambitious goals for the city’s post-coronavirus recovery, Hizzoner said at his daily press briefing.

“I’m very, very excited to turn to a new commissioner who will take what we announced [last week], bring it to life quickly and urgently and then go every farther,” Hizzoner said — referencing his plans to convert car lanes to bike lanes on the Brooklyn and Queensboro bridges.

Gutman is a longtime de Blasio backer who donated over $12,000 to Hizzoner’s two mayoral campaigns, according to campaign finance records.

Speaking alongside the mayor, he pledged to build 10,000 bike racks to bolster the city’s lack of bicycle parking. The city currently has just one spot for every 116 bikes.

Gutman also promised to “double down” on the city’s open streets and outdoor dining initiatives and “deepen Vision Zero,” the mayor’s program to reduce traffic deaths.

“We have an opportunity to drive transformative and permanent change permanent change in this city to fight climate change and drive a recovery for all of us,” he said.

Margaret Forgione, who has served as acting DOT commissioner since December, will serve as Gutman’s first deputy commissioner, de Blasio said.

Longtime DOT head Polly Trottenberg quit in December to take a role under President Joe Biden at the U.S. Department of Transportation.

NYC’s transportation advocates praised Gutman’s appointment.

“Hank Gutman is a strong choice to lead NYC DOT during this critical moment,” Danny Harris of Transportation Alternatives said in a statement.
