Winter worries mothers the most.” Is my child cold? Will he be sick? Will this child be sick for sure? What if he’s still cold?” Many anxieties have already taken their place in the minds of mothers.

The onset of cold weather can cause an increase in epidemics as well as anxiety disorders in parents. In particular, the pressure of “the child will get cold, he will get sick” by grandparents and aunts from all over the country causes anxiety disorders in parents. The anxiety of parents, especially mothers, turns into problems such as stress, tension, moodiness, crying spells, and appetite disorders. Because in the 0-6 age period, the child first absorbs the feelings of the mother and the environment and transforms them into their consciousness, embodying them with their behaviors. When we witness that children cannot walk because of the weight of their clothes, we keep thinking about how they breathe between their berets that cover their eyes and scarves that cover their noses? Well, how do parents, especially mothers, understand whether their babies/children are cold? “They are your children and no one knows them better than you”. Of course, you have to transfer it to the elders without offending them and draw the boundaries of your own parenting.

A newborn baby can balance its body temperature within 15 days. In the first 15 days, the baby should wear one more layer of whatever the mother is wearing, and then the baby should be dressed in the same thickness as the mother. Of course, if the mother has a disease that makes her feel cold more than normal, attention should be paid to this, and the mother should not equate her baby with herself.

The fact that babies have cold hands, faces or noses is not an indication that they are cold. Hands and face area are organs that help to balance body temperature. As the body heats up, the hands and face cool. For example, children with fever have cold hands. You can easily tell whether babies are cold from their back and chest. It is enough to touch these areas with your hand.

Every house should have a thermometer. The thermometer relaxes the person with the room temperature it shows. If the parent sees and knows the room temperature, they will be more sure of their feelings and get rid of them. In this way, he will make a healthier decision on how his child should really dress. Otherwise, as the room temperature is not known, a question mark will always remain in mind and concerns will increase.

The table below shows the degree of tog (heat permeability/thermal measure) that should be dressed for children according to the temperature.

Is it hot or cold makes you sick? ?

It should not be forgotten that the cause of diseases is not cold but heat. The reason for the increase in diseases in cold weather is that bacteria and viruses cannot find a living space in the cold and enter closed areas and people spend longer time in closed areas. No matter how cold it is, indoor areas must be ventilated every day.

There is no problem in taking children out in winter, provided that appropriate clothes are worn. It even acts as a cold immunity booster.

One more point needs attention, Norwegian children are also children 😉

Stay healthy!
