The chase began when a trooper tried to pull over a Ford vehicle for speeding on Highway 24 in Duplin County around 10 p.m. Monday, news station WITN reported.

The driver led the trooper onto Highway 11 before running through a stop sign.

The vehicle then sped off the road, hit a fence and traveled into a pond, where it landed upside down and was quickly submerged. the outlet reported.

An officer was able to rescue rope to save one person who was in the vehicle, authorities said.
