Rep. Matt Gaetz said he would resign if called on by former President Donald Trump to defend him in his upcoming impeachment trial, saying it’d be the “top priority in my life.”

The Florida congressman made the comment in an interview with the Steve Bannon-hosted podcast “War Room Pandemic.”

“If the president called me and wanted me to go defend him on the floor of the Senate, that would be the top priority in my life,” Gaetz said Wednesday, according to Newsweek.

“I would leave my House seat, I would leave my home, I would do anything I had to do to ensure that the greatest president in my lifetime — one of the greatest presidents our country has ever had, maybe the greatest president our country has ever had — got a full-throated defense that wasn’t crouched down, that wasn’t in fear of losing some moderate Republican senator but that was worthy of the fight that he gave to the great people of this country for four years.”

A second impeachment trial against Trump — now accused of inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot that left five people dead — will begin next Tuesday.

In a 14-page filing, Trump denied the sole impeachment article against him — incitement of insurrection — and said the Senate “lacks jurisdiction over the 45th President because he holds no public office from which he can be removed.”

Gaetz, 38, a staunch Trump ally, got his law degree from William & Mary Law School in Virginia and worked as an attorney in northwest Florida, according to his online bio.

“I love my district. I love representing them,” Gaetz said on the podcast referring to Florida’s 1st congressional district, the Daily Mail reported. “But I view this cancelation of the Trump presidency and the Trump movement as one of the major risks to my people, both in my district and all throughout this great country.”
