TBV Dietitian Gökçen Efe Aydın said that one of the most basic needs for protecting the body from flu infections and harmful viruses in cold weather is water, and to consume the same amount of water consumed in winter as in summer. In a written statement made by the Turkish Kidney Foundation (TBV), the water consumption, which increases in direct proportion to the hot weather and the energy consumed in the summer months, shows a great decrease in the winter months, and some of this decrease is observed. It was stated that the amount of water that should be consumed in a day may be less than half of the time. Emphasizing that drinks such as linden, sage, rosehip tea and light tea can be preferred to facilitate and meet the need, Aydın emphasized that it is necessary to consume the amount of water consumed in winter and in summer, gave the information:

“Decreased metabolic rate with cold weather reduces the desire for water consumption. However, one of the most basic needs for our body to be protected from flu infections and harmful viruses in cold weather is water. Therefore, it is extremely important to consume the same amount of water consumed in winter as in summer. With adequate water consumption, it is possible to remove toxins formed in the body, to protect against influenza infection and harmful viruses, to work adequately for body functions, to maintain metabolism balance, and to realize many biochemical reactions in the body.”

Gökçen Efe Aydın, Expressing that you can start the day with a glass of water to wake up the metabolism that sleeps during the night, he said, “Liquid consumption is vital for the protection of kidney health. Another step towards decreasing water consumption is to increase physical activity. Increasing physical activity will increase the body’s need for water and help the metabolism work faster.”
